Have you heard of Parkrun? Our practice is aiming to become a parkrun practice. Part of this is encouraging patients and staff to take part in parkrun.
Parkrun rakes place every Saturday morning (Sunday for junior parkrun) at 9am. It’s a 5km run (2km for juniors) although you don’t have to run, you can walk or a combination. There’s a tailwalker so you’ll never come last. If you don’t want to take part you can volunteer to marshal, or just turn up to watch. It’s free for everyone, just register online beforehand and print off your barcode.
Taking part is beneficial to your physical as well as mental health. Volunteering has also been shown to be beneficial to your wellbeing.
If you’d like to know more have a look at https://www.parkrun.org.uk/
Our nearest event to the surgery is held at Towneley Park, there are also events at Wilson’s Playing Fields in Clayton-le-Moors, Witton Park in Blackburn and Alkincoats Park in Pendle.
The RCGP is encouraging practices to attend on Saturday 1st June – please try and go down on this date and have a look out for our doctors and practice staff – words of encouragement would be welcome
